The Kaizen (Japanese for continuous improvement) exercise was held across the Operations, Production and Janitorial departments of the company during the periods February 27th to March 3rd, 2017 and May 7th to 10th 2017.
The objective of these sessions was to increase productivity and efficiency in key processes. Employees from management to line staff were involved in the training exercises.
The Kaizen exercises focused on the diagnosis of the current system to identify its strengths and flaws. From there the “5S” approach became the emphasis. First off, Sorting, Setting in order and Shining (inspection through cleaning) were applied to the process. From there a Standard process was implemented which must be Sustained as part of daily work at the facility.
The exercises and results are thus far proving that the Kaizen approach is a valuable one which fosters an improved work flow and productivity across the departments.
Special thanks to Camilio Alvarez, Lean Specialist, Goddard Catering Group – Caribbean & Latin America, who conducted the training, and the Kaizen Team.
