Another Secondary schools Competition Launched

26 Jul 2017

Jonas, Browne & Hubbard (Hubbard’s), in conjunction with the Netherlands-based dairy cooperative, FrieslandCampina, will continue to sponsor the local Dutch Lady Milk Culinary Competition for secondary schools. The 2017 competition was launched at the National Stadium on March 10, 2017 St. George and attendees included students and teachers, as well as officials of the Ministry of Education.   The closing ceremony and distribution of prizes for the 2016 competition also took place on that day. In addressing the ceremony, Managing Director of Hubbard’s, A. H Bierzynski, encouraged ongoing student participation in the Dutch Lady Milk Culinary Competition. “Remember, it’s not just fun and winning prizes,” Mr. Bierzynski said. “It is about education, it’s about learning about nutrition, it’s learning skills which you would be able to put to good use, after you graduate from school.”

The preliminary round of this year’s competition begins in September, with the final scheduled for November. Mrs. Margaret   Roberts, Manager, Agency Department, said the 2017 competition is offering prizes of cash and appliances, including a refrigerator. “The first place winner of the culinary competition will receive a brand new refrigerator and the students that participated will receive a voucher of $500 each; so both the schools and the students will receive prizes,’’ she explained. “The second place school will receive a brand new cooker and the students will receive vouchers of $300 each.

The third place school will receive a food processor and a microwave oven, and the students will receive a voucher of $200 each. Other participating schools will receive small appliances including a blender, a cake mixer, electrical kettles, glass sets, baking trays and a toaster oven.

All participating schools will receive an official certificate of participation. There will also be a draw for a refrigerator for the general public. Customers will have a chance to win a brand new refrigerator with every purchase of evaporated half-cream milk and Power-shake purchased.
