GCG’s joint venture partner LSG Sky Chefs, the world’s largest provider of airline catering and in-flight services, invited GCG to participate in their 2016 Copa America Football Tournament. The event took place on April 13th, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and GCG’s team won the 2nd Place in the tournament and also won the Fair Play Award! The Fair Play Award is a FIFA recognition of exemplary behavior that promotes the spirit of fair play and compassion in football associations around the world.
With 17 employees (10 players, 4 cheerleaders and 3 executives) from 11 Countries who met for the first time in a foreign country and cheerfully and passionately played against 8 teams from 13 other countries, GCG brought home a trophy while leaving behind an impeccable reputation by winning the Fair Play award! All of this in less than 24 hours!
The GCG team was composed of 14 employees from various Companies throughout the division. The 10 dynamic and actively engaged winning players were: Alden Iboy – Guatemala; Fernando Sierra – Colombia; Gastón Iglesias – Uruguay; Herbert Obia – Curacao; Hugo Bolivar – Venezuela; Miguel Angel Murillo – Honduras; Sean Jones – Barbados; Steven Blackett – Barbados; Veran Baptiste – Saint Lucia; and William Raymundo – El Salvador.
The players were enthusiastically cheered in every single game by the following fans: Aidette Hansen – Curacao; Jaqueline Marisol Dominguez – El Salvador; Jeneille Melissa Moore – Barbados; Maria Alejandra Garro – Uruguay
The coach was Mr. Ever Santis, Certified Professional Football Coach and GCG’s own General Manager in Guatemala. GCG’s Ambassador was Mr. Bruno Barrientos, Business Development Manager while GCG’s Special Guest and Active Goalkeeper was GEL’s CEO, Mr. Anthony Ali.
LSG provided free accommodations at a luxury resort in Sao Paulo as well as all meals, transportation and uniforms. GCG purchased the airfare and as a token of appreciation, provided a pair of new tennis shoes to all employees. In addition, each one of GCG’s employees took various souvenirs such as keychains, magnets, pens, etc., to give away to the players of all other countries in the tournament. The souvenirs were memoirs from their own country.
Mr. Stewart Massiah, GCG’s President, proudly extended a heartfelt thank you to all of the participants for a great job. He was also grateful to the General Managers and the Human Resource Managers for all of their work in joining to making sure their employees’ trip and experience was as safe and as fun as possible. GCG’s combined gratitude to LSG’s Management for the invitation goes without saying.
This wonderful experience shows that when you come together as a Team, anything is possible!
