Sandra Reid, Purity’s Mobile Retailer can be seen every week day morning at the Goddard’s Building at Haggatt Hall as she offers her customers, not only a variety of delicious baked goods and pastries made by Purity Bakeries, but a friendly smile and a warm personality. Sandra’s day starts at 6:00 a.m. at the Fairchild Street Bus Stand where she meets and greets her first customers. She then makes her way up Wildey Main road to Courtesy Garage and then on to the Goddard’s Building in Haggatt Hall.
She said that she did not grow up with a lot but is grateful for all that she has achieved. She is totally committed to her job at Purity Bakeries and has had many jobs since joining Purity eleven years ago. Sandra indicated that she has had eleven years of perfect attendance and can count the number of sick days that she has taken. She said: “I often work on my off days when they need me – they call and I’m gone – and I stay on after work hours to help.” Her commitment extends to working the trucks in the past, sometimes three or four per night starting at 6:00 a.m. and not leaving until 12 midnight or 1:00 the following morning.
She started off as a General Worker, packing bread, before learning how to operate the machinery and moving on to Rack counting, tallying the amount of bread produced for the day. In 2009, she won her first Employee of the Year award and applied for the post of Senior General Worker and was successful. To date, Sandra has received 25 Awards from the company which she proudly displays on a table in her living room at home.
In addition, Sandra has received many accolades including Perfect Attendance and Star Employee of the Quarter. Sandra has been voted Employee of the Year for the past three consecutive years - in 2012, 2013 and 2014 - and has had the opportunity to be rewarded with cruises and gifts by the company. She has seen such places as Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Turks & Caicos Islands, Antigua, St. Lucia, Dominica and St. Maarten. Her next cruise will take her to Haiti, Jamaica and Mexico. She said: “Thanks to Purity, I have seen some beautiful places, but Barbados is still a gem in comparison to a lot of them”.
Sandra said that while she cannot predict the future, she plans to continue doing what she is doing as well as she could and said: “After God, I want to thank all my supervisors, past and present, for helping me achieve all of these trophies." Well done, Sandra!
