HISTORY OF THE ST. VINCENT OPERATIONS
In 1962, Goddard Enterprises Limited acquired its second overseas interest when it purchased United Traders Limited, a privately owned company which traded in hardware (Hardware Department), food (Supermarket), motor vehicles (Automotive Department) and a Department Store.
In 1963 the Group purchased another privately owned company called Corea and Co Limited with similar trading practices to the above but in addition had Shipping and Insurance departments and excluded a Department Store. Later, in 1968, another private company was purchased – Gerry Palmer Limited. In 1973, H.D. Dear Ltd – a company that held lands at Cane Hall and several agencies including B.A.T (British American Tobacco) – was also purchased. In that same year, a holding company – Goddard Enterprises (St. Vincent) Ltd – was formed to own the St. Vincent interests. In 1976, the trading activities of the other three companies were taken over by United Traders Ltd which later changed its name to Corea’s Trading Limited.
In December 1981, Goddard Enterprises (St. Vincent) Limited acquired Hazells Limited – THE OLDEST REGISTERED COMPANY IN ST. VINCENT (established in 1845). This company comprised the following: an Hardware and Building Supplies Department, a Wholesale Food and Liquor Department, along with Automotive, Shipping and Insurance Departments.
In 1985, Goddard acquired 53.59% of the shares in W.B. Hutchinson & Co (St. Vincent) Limited and in 1990 all the remaining shares were acquired. WBH held the Ace Hardware franchise and a Food Distribution Department.
In 1988, Corea & Co (1988) Limited was formed to manage the Shipping Agencies of Coreas Trading Limited as Hazells Limited.
A member of the Goddard Group of Companies, Corea & Co (1988) Ltd is well established and accepted as being the most respected shipping agency and shore excursion operator in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, serving 85% of the cruise vessels and 70% of cargo vessels that visit our shores. The company also carries a US$2M Tour Liability Insurance.
Corea & Co (1988) Limited’s Cruise Division represents many cruise lines including Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises, AIDA, Silversea Cruises, Cunard/Seabourn Line, Holiday Kreuzfahrten (Mona Lisa) Cruises, Fred Olsen Cruises, Sun Cruises and Majestic Cruise Line among others.
The Cargo Division is agent for Geest Line and Tropical Shipping. Together they offer the best coverage of the Caribbean on a weekly basis – spanning the European and North American trade lanes. Geest offers fast shipping from Portsmouth and le Harvre to Martinique (in the north) and Trinidad (in the south) while Tropical offers shipping out of Miami. Excellent schedule integrity is guaranteed.
The Shore Excursions Division offers quality tours with the most experienced and dedicated staff in the industry.
Corea’s Food Division supplies fine wines, fresh vegetables, choice cuts of meat, fresh tropical fruits, vegetables, flowers, plants, etc. to hotels ,restaurants, institutions, yachts, cargo and military ships, as well as selling the following products to supermarkets, mini marts, ships, wholesalers, vendors and bars:
Gallo wines, UDV (Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Baileys, Gordon’s Gin, Tanqueray), Malibu, Sunset Rum, Courvoisier, cigarettes in the various brands – B&H, 555, Dunhill, du Maurier, Marlboro – Mars confectionary, Eve products, Grace products, Matouks products, Pillsbury products, Sunquick products, Anchor products, Brunswick products, Pine Hill products, Colgate-Palmolive products, Bayer products, Kodak cameras and films, Johnson and Johnson products, Seven Seas products, Janssen-Cilag products, Bristol-Myers products, Wyeth products, poultry parts, beef, pork, hams and turkey.
The Building Supplies Division of Coreas Hazells Inc., including Ace Hardware, is the largest and most profitable division of the St. Vincent operations. This division has more than doubled its sales and profits over the past seven years and is the market leader in paints, tiles, lumber and cement (including the in-house Atlas brand).
Other products offered to the construction sector includes: Windows, doors, steel and a wide range of Ace Hardware products. The Division also boasts a reliable and efficient 24 hour delivery service along with regular market visits to customers.
The company’s Insurance Department is Agent for N.E.M (West Indies) Insurance Ltd., commonly known as NEMWIL and Lloyds of London, both highly reputable insurance companies.
The Insurance Department, originally a department of Hazells Limited, has been in existence for over seventy-five years – long before the Goddard’s acquired Hazells Limited – and has developed a reputation for honesty and good business practices. The areas of insurance covered by the department are property insurance, motor insurance and marine and travel insurance.
The Auto Department is Agent for Nissan Motors and trades in a variety of parts and accessories. They also sell tyres and batteries.
In September 2001, Diamond Holdings Inc. was acquired. In February 2002, Coreas Trading Limited took over the trading activities of W.B. Hutchinson (St. V) Ltd. In June 2002, Diamond Holdings, Corea’s Trading Ltd and Hazells Ltd amalgamated under the name – Coreas Hazells Inc. In July 2003, Coreas Hazells Inc and Goddard Enterprises (ST. V) Ltd amalgamated under the name – Coreas Hazells Inc.
