Mr. Ian Castilho has been the General Manager of IBM World Trade Corp Barbados and EC Islands - reporting to Head Office in Toronto - since 1988, where he had full responsibility for bottom-line factors, including vision, long range strategic planning, operations including sales and services management, and country financial performance.
Mr. Castilho received his secondary education at Presentation College and Harrison College in Barbados before entering the University of Essex in England where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science, with Honours. He has also completed Leadership and Management training through Queens University's Executive Program in 1990 and the Management Acceleration program at IBM Canada in 1986.
After graduating from university, he joined IBM Data Centre in Barbados in 1974 after a short stint with the Barbados Government working as a Systems Analyst. He subsequently became Data Centre Manager at IBM World Trade Corp in Barbados from 1975-1978 and Location Manager from 1978-1988 before being appointed General Manager with responsibility for developing and leading high performance teams in IBM country operations, a position he held until his retirement on 1 July 2017.
Mr. Castilho served on the Telecommunications Committee which negotiated with Cable & Wireless for liberalisation between 1995 and 1996; as well as on the Board of Cognos Barbados Ltd - an offshore company- from April to December 2008. He has also served on the Board of Directors of IBM Foreign Sales Corporation since 1996.
His interests include Music, Hiking and Table Tennis.
